Hi Steve,

Does anyone know if UPS's are supported yet?

In June last year support was still very experimental.

You should have a look at Network UPS Tools (NUT - [1])
Whatever your UPS brand is, I've launched an effort
(libHID - [2], soon available on savannah) that will
enhance the current, and still beta, hidups.

Since you've looked at it last year, I've added the
shutdown capabilities (so commands and RW variables),
so it's now beta...

There's also apcupsd, which is specific to apc ups's. I successfully installed it and tested it on an apc backups es 500. By 'tested it' I mean that the daemon that runs and successfully shut the box down following a power outage. There's an apcupsd list. This particular ups has usb connectivity for it's connection to the computer.
