Hello,

I have a CD/RW (FreeCom Traveller) connectable via CardBus and USB. If I use CardBus,
everything is fine and I can burn via cdrecord / k3b.

If I connect via USB2.0 (using an USB2.0 CardBus adapter) I still can burn via
cdrecord - but k3b (or cdbakeoven) do not recognise it as a burn device. The reason
seems to be that for usb,

+ cat /proc/sys/dev/cdrom/info
CD-ROM information, Id: cdrom.c 3.12 2000/10/18

drive name: sr1 sr0
drive speed: 1 24
drive # of slots: 1 1
Can close tray: 1 1
Can open tray: 1 1
Can lock tray: 1 1
Can change speed: 0 1
Can select disk: 0 0
Can read multisession: 1 1
Can read MCN: 1 1
Reports media changed: 1 1
Can play audio: 1 1
Can write CD-R: 0 0
Can write CD-RW: 0 0
Can read DVD: 0 1
Can write DVD-R: 0 0
Can write DVD-RAM: 0 0

while for CardBus connected I see 'Can write CD-R(W)' set to 1. Difference between
CardBus and USB is also, the using USB the burner is on device 1,0,0 , while using
CardBus I have it on 0,1,0 - but should that make a diffference ?

I do not know why cdrecord can identify the device as burner - but it does:

+ cdrecord -prcap -dev=/dev/sr1
cdrecord: Warning: not running as root user, fs= option ignored.
scsidev: '/dev/sr1'
devname: '/dev/sr1'
scsibus: -2 target: -2 lun: -2
Warning: Open by 'devname' is unintentional and not supported.
Linux sg driver version: 3.1.25
cdrecord: Warning: using inofficial libscg transport code version ([EMAIL PROTECTED]

Note: This version is an unofficial (modified) version with DVD support
Note: and therefore may have bugs that are not present in the original.

Note: The author of cdrecord is not to be bothered with problems in this version.
Using libscg version 'schily-0.7'
Device type : Removable CD-ROM
Version : 2
Response Format: 1
Vendor_info : ' '
Identifikation : 'CD-R/RW RW8040A '
Revision : '1.15'
Device seems to be: Generic mmc CD-RW.

Drive capabilities, per MMC page 2A:

  Does read CD-R media
  Does write CD-R media
  Does read CD-RW media
  Does write CD-RW media
  Does not read DVD-ROM media
  Does not read DVD-R media
  Does not write DVD-R media
  Does not read DVD-RAM media
  Does not write DVD-RAM media
  Does support test writing
  ....

What is the reason for this behaviour and how to resolve ?

Malte
