Hi Pieter, the symptoms you describe are exactly what I experienced with a Genesys chipset. I didn't find a solution and returned my drive ... Now I have a drive with a Prolific chipset which is working nicely!
> My question is now: should i wait for a patch, or return the drive to the > store and buy me some other brand? Since the path would have to come from Genesys (I assume it's not so much a Linux problem) I wouldn't wait. Just return the drive and look for a better one. You could have a look at http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/ to find a suitable drive and if you have the time, please file a record concerning the bad one so others can use this info in the future.
