There were some problems internal to the SCSI layer, triggered by the bad device. A patch is available for Linux 2.6.9 which should work around the buggy device:

Question: Is there any way to recover from this without a reboot? I would think I'd be able to rmmod/modprobe the offending modules, but that isn't working and I'm not certain why.
