Hi. I have a general question re: the usb-storage driver and hotplugging of usb keys.
I'm trying to set up auto hot-plugging of usb keys in a computer lab. I would like students to be able to plug in their USB key, no matter what the type, and auto-recognize and mount the key. There are, of course, two issues -- the first issue is whether the device is listed in the /lib/modules/.../modules.usbmap file. The second issue involves the actual mounting of the device. Concentrating on the first issue, I know that when modutils is compiled, the modules.usbmap file contains entries for usb-storage with respect to various devices. Will all existing USB keys fit into this specification somehow? If a key does not fit into the specification, would adding an entry to the file help, allowing the driver to load for the new key type, or does the existing map file list all combinations that would work with the usb-storage driver already? I'm not concerned about supporting USB keys that would require some other driver other than the usb-storage driver. I would like to support the majority of the keys though, and I wonder if I will need to provide a mechanism for new key types to be added. Thanks for any help you can provide..
