Indeed. That is, in fact, how the system is set up now. > Those 2 modules weren't getting loaded in your earlier report, so I > assumed that they were built into the kernel. But yeah, usbserial and belkin_sa are loaded modules, and I did turn debugging on, via /etc/modprobe.conf -- no extra error messages in /var/log/messages. > > Maybe a line analyzer would provide > > some clues, except that if I could afford one of those, I'd just buy a > > new mobo with more capacity. > > > > I'm hesitant to put the UPS on the USB/Serial adapter, until I feel > > better about it being a reliable interface. > > I don't know what sort of UPS you're using, but I've successfully (on a > short-term basis) used my APC 'Back-UPS Pro 650' UPS with both my Belkin > F5U109 and my IOGear GUC232A USB/RS-232 adapters. Well, back when I got the UPS going, I looked at several UPS programs. I'll cross that bridge again if I have to. But I prefer to just keep using what I know works. Although what that wound up being was James Brents' powerd, but only after I hacked it. http://freshmeat.net/projects/powerd/ But, this is getting pretty far afield. I going to send a ping over to devel, and see if anyone there wants to weigh in.
