Indeed. That is, in fact, how the system is set up now.

Bletch. I don't know how those modules were unloaded at that point in
time. But yeah, usbserial and belkin_sa are loaded modules, and I did turn
debugging on, via /etc/modprobe.conf -- no extra error messages in
/var/log/messages.

Well, back when I got the UPS going, I looked at several UPS programs.
I'll cross that bridge again if I have to. But I prefer to just keep using
what I know works. Although what that wound up being was James Brents'
powerd, but only after I hacked it.
