Nope: into the back of a laptop - there are 4 USB sockets there. I normally plug it in via a USB cable, but even w/o the cable I get the same problem. It's an Acer Aspire 1355LM (i.e. bottom of the line laptop). It seems the pb is not specific to the zMate: I've now bought a cheap USB2 key (PureMedia) and the behaviour is the same.
