Well I've tried in the "proper" port on the back; now I get just this
message once:

usb 4-2: new high speed USB device using address 4
usb 4-2: device descriptor read/8, error -71

There is no repeating message, but still the device does not apper in
/proc/bus/usb/devices.

Though, as I said above, the front port works fine with the iRiver on
USB2...
