Maybe some can explain why there are not 4 busses (1 for each port)?
Alan Stern may have an idea on that.
How can what version of USB a device is using?
I have one USB2 high speed device and probably one USB2 low speed and probably one USB1.1 (or 1.0).
Look at /proc/bus/usb/devices directly or by using 'usbview'.
Or use 'usbtree' (a lite version of /proc/bus/usb/devices).
I made it crash and leave a window. :-( Nothing happened when I killed any of the processes (kill and kill -9) as root). :-(
cat /proc/bus/usb/devices hung my console. I can still type but I lost the prompt.
The reason I am looking at this stuff is I'm having a problem with my USB2 hub/cable. WindowsXP warned me it was running at low speed when I connected the 2nd HS device to it. The hub has a little short cable (~2") that attaches to one of the USB2 ports on my PCI card. I bought an extension cable (that is supposed to be up to the USB2 HS standard but this may be the problem). I can connect either my memory key OR digital memory card reader to the hub but the hub makes both low speed if I use the extension cable. It seems to work fine if I do not use the extension cable.
Under Linux, one of my devices disappears when I use the extension cable. It comes right back when I take off the extension cable.
I connected two USB2 high speed devices to the hub and connected the hub to the PCI card.
Then I took the hub with the devices still connected and connected the hub with the extension cable.
Then I did the same thing without the extension cable again.
The cat without the extension cable is at: www.lockie.ca/test/wo.txt.bz2
The cat with the extension cable is at: www.lockie.ca/test/w.txt.bz2
The second cat without the extension cable is at: www.lockie.ca/test/wo2.txt.bz2
I hope someone can look at them and figure out what is going on.
The extension cable has writing on the side that may be useful: usb shielded high speed cable 2.0 revision 28awg/2c+28awg/2c e186601 (ul) type cm 75[degrees]C ll84201 csa type cmg 75[degrees]C ft4 copartner" I was assured before I bought it that it is USB2 high speed but it is not silver coloured.
