This appears to be a hardware problem of some sort. Maybe the EHCI controller on your computer isn't working right, or maybe the USB cable connections allow too much noise to leak in when operating at high speed.
You could try using 2.6.11; it includes a few driver fixes that aren't in 2.6.10 and they may help.

Okay, I compiled the 2.6.11 and the same error was encountered, so I guess it�s just to give up on the ehci-mode... The strange thing is (and I should probably have mentioned this before), that the player works well in windows XP (with speeds above 2MB/sec), so that should rule out the cable as the error source. On the other hand my friends mp3-player worked perfectly in linux with ehci, which should rule out the usb-controller as the error source. Status quo... Well, thanks for the help anyway!
