I just bought the card shown at
http://www.q-see.com/qstor/qu2fcnpci.html, a PCI card with USB 2.0 and
Firewire ports. The card has the VIA chipset. Everything seems to be
fine with the card, except that it doesn't actually connect to any USB
peripherals, and the one attempt to connect a Firewire external disk
drive threw a whole bunch of read-write errors. As far as I can tell,
lspci and lsusb give output which corresponds to cards previously
reported at the linux-usb Web site as working.
Just for completeness, I attach below the output of 'lspci -v' and
'lsusb -v' on the system affected, after trimming out the non-relevant
parts of the former. The system is Fedora Core 4 running kernel
2.6.13-1.1532_FC4smp.
