I might be going about this wrong? I need to be able to reliably mount (automatically) a usb storage device after insertion, and be able to detect if a storage device has been removed. I thought hotplug would provide the necessary notification and script support for this. But it seems as though I need to build for modules. This is an embedded system and I am not sure that I gain anything (in fact I may lose performance) by using modules, that is unless you count hotplug. Do I have to build for modules (at least all the drivers) for hotplugging to work?
I know the hotplug initialization is being called from /etc/init.d/hotplug. I know that the core/usb/usb_hotplug() function is being called on insertion and removal but no call to /sbin/hotplug ever takes place. What has to be in place for the call to /sbin/hotplug? I have udev installed as well but of course it isn't working either. We are using 018 and I realize this is not going to work and have to upgrade to a newer version (>058).
