Run a version of the driver with the hid_init_reports() call commented out, and do another usbmon capture of everything starting from when you plug in the Combo device, including some attempts to use the touchpad. Leave the hid_set_idle() call, since Windows does the same thing. I'll compare the usbmon output with the USB Snoopy log from Windows you posted earlier to see what differences remain.
