Well, turns out to be simple: the proper host controller, uhci_hcd in my case, wasn't loaded for some obscure reason, even though I specifally set it in "make menuconfig". And the reason for not finding out sooner: the box runs headless and most relevant error messages indicating usb loading problems weren't repeated from the console in "dmesg"'s output :( After carefully hand-crafting a kernel config based on a "known good" 2.6.16.11 debian config, things started to work automagically as it now did load uhci_hcd. Did all the other things you mentioned, distro is debain. I'll read up on initramfs as I haven't read about that whilst discovering all about USB and kernel series 2.6.x ;) Cheers, Bas. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
