Try copying the file ks959-sir.ko into the directory :
/lib/modules/<your kernel version>/kernel/drivers/net/irda
then running /sbin/depmod -a, then plugging in your dongle.
I get the same error when I compile for a particular kernel version for
the very first time, and forget to run depmod -a to update kernel
dependencies.
