Did you copy the new kernel image into your /boot partition, change
/etc/lilo.conf and run Lilo so that you can boot the new kernel image? There are
instructions as to how to do this contained in the Kernel-HOWTO.

What linux distribution are you running? Which version of the kernel were you
attempting to install? As you should know, the 2.3 series are developmental and
sometimes problems happen. I am sure people on the list will help you with your
problems if you can answer the above information for a start.

Well, I give up:
after having done make modules and make modules_install, i did depmod
-a, resetted the computer and found out to have a lot of unresolved
dependencies.
I guess I must wait for a usr friendly way to activate my USB port (that
does not work with Win 98).
