By the way, now that I think about it - things are probably getting
worse with devfs, because you can't get a kmod request for a char device
that even doesn't have an devnode in /dev until the device is
registered.

Perhaps devfsd handles this - I haven't studied it too deeply yet.

In my opinion, sooner or later the automatic module loading system will
have to be rethought ...
