... when someone working for Philips gets a "promise" from management that
if he gets a few-thousand responses they will reconsider opening up the
specs, then I don't see that as the pleadings of a small group of fanatics.

I don't see how it hurts to comply with Jeroen's small request.  The worst
that happens is that you've wasted 36 seconds typing/sending the email.
