Hi John,
By default you will not have a kernel with USB support with a
RedHat 6.1 install. You probably want to get a 2.2.15 kernel source and
apply the backport patch (linked to from www.linux-usb.org). You'll then
use "make menuconfig" from the /usr/src/linux directory (where you
unpacked and patched the kernel source) to select USB options you wish.
Once you've done this you should then be able to follow the
linuxusbguide further.
