First make sure that you have the latest version of PPP.

Could you enable the usb-serial debugging option, and then try to make a
ppp connection, and send me / the list the output of the kernel messages
('dmesg').

Some people have reported that they can get a ppp connection working,
but not reliably. The developer of the driver is working on it, but
having more debugging information would certainly help.
