I have posted a small program derived from bits of usbutils,
which I have named usb-printer-id. It extracts the IEEE-1284
Plug'n'Play printer ID information through a USB parallel dongle or
a USB interface built into a printer. It uses usbdevfs.

It is a useful utility and is also a pretty minimalist example
of how to use usbdevfs ioctl's to perform a USB control transaction.
I mention it on this list especially so that nobody needs to reinvent
the wheel with respect to this.
