I've installed linux (RH6.1) on my PIII/600MHz system as a second OS (it
came with Win98 SE) and I seriously want to make it the primary OS, but
I'm having trouble connecting with a Viking 56K external USB modem.
(Why is he in this predicament, you may be asking. Well, the UPS needs
exclusive use of the one serial port the system has, and a USB modem
seemed my only option).
I've successfully installed the backport patch, but I can't seem to
locate the driver acm.o, if I understand the documentation on the web.
I've created nodes for the modem thus:
mknod /dev/usb/ttyACM0 c 166 0
mknod /dev/usb/ttyACM1 c 166 1
mknod /dev/usb/ttyACM2 c 166 2
mknod /dev/usb/ttyACM3 c 166 3
However, sending a testfile to the device
(cat testfile.txt > /dev/usb/ttyACM0)
got no reaction from the modem.
Can anyone advise me as to how to install the acm.o module (starting
with where to find it)?
Thanks,
Joseph Polanik
