Just to throw some possibly more useless data on the fire...
I've seen some odd behaviors when sending _very_ short packets, on the
order of 8 bytes or so. Sometimes these packets appear to be dropped or
the transfer otherwise fails (my memory on this is foggy, and it's kinda
rare).
