I'll agree that it's not a hot path. I'm just concerned that if we add too much defensive behavior, we'll end up triggering different host controller quirks. So I would rather modify behavior for particular host controllers. I reserve the right to change my mind about that, of course. :) I might agree with you when I start running out of bits in xhci->quirks.
