While there are toolkits that provide a uniform API across platforms, converting every call to the local platform's GUI, this produces bloated apps due to the extra layer. Still, it's great for getting an app to multiple OSen quickly. Development time vs "bloat control" A bit like recompiling a windows app for linux using winlib.
