Never mind, for anything important (firewall, email, word processor) he doesn't use MS either. He also didn't mention any of the dunno-how-to-do-this-with-XP things the average home user comes up with all the time, taking my flatmate as example. Replacing dial-up with ethernet - oh boy. And so on. I can verify the digital camera thing - plug in and go (usb mass storage cameras anyway). I could also emberrass myself with saying that I spent about 20 minutes to find out that it was already going (reading the docs of gphoto etc).
