Hi all, My 0.02c worth as an onlooker (i.e. not confident enough to be an installer yet).
I liked the venue (ok - so I live nearby), but could someone lend a heater! A portable gas job for the demo room would have been briliant (I understand there was only one fuse for the whole room) Was a great day, but i agree with Nick Rout's comments about the handout. Neede more info on Linux, and what software is available for it. Also, next time, how about a note next to each display computer to say what is or may be seen on the machine. I would not like to see that display portion removed or significantly reduced. The install room caters to those we have converted - the display room is for the curious, who have yet to become converts! I saw quite a few people asking pertinent questions in there. Also these machines were doing a sterling job of burning discs at the same time as displaying their capabilities. A really great demo if a machine can be 'cutting' a disc while surfing the web, or playing games. I spoke witjh someone knowledgeable only today who told me there wasn't much that would run on Linux, so he was putting up with MS in his office even tho' he got a Linux distro with his machines. I put him straight about that! (esp. OpenOffice/StarOffice) Those games and DVDs were great for keeping kids occupied. Maybe advertise it as a family thing next time? Get them young!! AND how about someone writes a follow-up article for the Press - perhaps for next Thursday, which will give time for it to be edited by the group. This will bring the linux name to an even wider audience (i.e. Joe Bloke) not just us geeks (at least that's how I think we are perceived) I agree that the next one will be just as big as the word spreads.
