I have observed several times as well that experimenting with places to put lilo doesn't pay. Put it inthe MBR and be done with it. Once everything boots and runs, *and* you have a *working* boot floppy, start experimenting. Reminds of of several Red Hat installs where their installer was dumb enough to offer places to chose from which were absolutely no go according to the lilo manual. What a laugh. And the installer couldn't be restarted, net result: start from scratch. Double laugh. I didn't fiddle with this too often.
