Help!. I have a mess with my files and backups about 1.5G, they are spread over 3 different partitions because i don't have the room, only 13G total for all the systems, maybe an unlucky number. But now i have unlimited backup space, a CD R/W :-) those disks can't crash, i hope, all my files and backups have been put on CDs.
I tried some time ago to sort it out but because of these problems i gave up :-(. I want to find duplicate files in the same partition and rm them, some may have the same name but have a different size/date/time. I want to keep files that have the same name but have a different size, but not the ones with the same size/date/time. Also i want to backup (copy not tarred to a partition) my files without changing the date stamps, i have tried a number of switches but none did what i wanted. Also i need to backup only new and altered files. I have tried 'diff' but also never got it to do what i wanted, i think it changed the date stamps. If there are files with the same name but have a different .ext or none, i want to list these. And lastly, i think, if there are files with the same size/date/time but have a different name, i want to list these. Is there a file manager that will do some/all of this ?, gmc always changes the date/time stamps. Many Thanks Trevor
