The stats are rather dodgy, I mean comparing "Microsoft Products" to "Linux"? You really need compare linux with "Windows Products". Its no fun comparing a handful of grapes to a large bag of apples. Companies other than Microsoft provide vulnerable windows services (although exploits are sometimes fixed a lot quicker)
The big thing is distributions providing an easy way to update software with vulnerabilities - Microsoft has windows update. Debian has the security.debian.org repository, I'm not sure what other distributions are offering. But it all goes back to the old age solution, secure your systems before putting them on the net. I had a lecturer earlier on in the year quoting some figures (cant remember where from) about the average time for default RedHat 6.2 (?) install being hacked from code red is 72 hours. Thankfully people are taking firewalls more seriously these days ;) Sascha On Fri, 2002-10-04 at 15:03, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > Within hours of setting up my webserver I was getting code code red attacks.
