The stats are rather dodgy, I mean comparing "Microsoft Products" to
"Linux"? You really need compare linux with "Windows Products". Its no
fun comparing a handful of grapes to a large bag of apples. Companies
other than Microsoft provide vulnerable windows services (although
exploits are sometimes fixed a lot quicker)

The big thing is  distributions providing an easy way to update software
with vulnerabilities - Microsoft has windows update. Debian has the
security.debian.org repository, I'm not sure what other distributions
are offering. 

But it all goes back to the old age solution, secure your systems before
putting them on the net. I had a lecturer earlier on in the year quoting
some figures (cant remember where from) about the average time for
default RedHat 6.2 (?) install being hacked from code red is 72 hours.
Thankfully people are taking firewalls more seriously these days ;)
