Nick, thanks for all your time searching (I didn't find anything relevant),
it say's...
you must put the graphics card into Bus Mastering mode. I discovered that X will
freeze when you switch from it to a virtual terminal and back if you don't have
Bus Mastering on.
i don't think it applies to my problem, (Am i wrong ?)
Switching back to X from a virtual terminal X is not freezing, i can't get back
to X from a virtual terminal i have a blank screen and no * keyboard * in any of
the CTRL ALT F1.....F7 and my only choice is the reset button.
All this has happened since it did not shutdown properly and i had a corrupted
reisiser / partition.
If i could use Bus Mastering it would speedup my screen drawing :-), i will
check it out.

VGA compatible controller: Rendition Verite V2000/V2100/V2200 (rev 6).
IRQ 9.
Master Capable. Latency=32.

Does this mean i can use Bus Mastering ?.
I think the keyboard disappearing in the VCs and in shutdown might be the cause
of my problem, even the * Num Lock LED goes out *

Known problems in current driver:
Switching to VC does not restore correct textmode. Instead it defaults to 80x25.
The XFree86-4.1.0 & 4.2.0 has the same problem.
What is the correct textmode in a VC ?, 80x25 is to big (it wraps around the
screen on long text).
When installing MDK it used XF86Config, i also have a XF86Config-4 file, would
there be any point going to XFree86 4.1.0 or later ?.
rpm -q XFree86 say's
XFree86-4.1.0-17mdk
But "xdpyinfo" say's
name of display: :0.0
version number: 11.0
vendor string: Mandrake Linux (XFree86 3.3.6, X-TT 1.3, patch level 25.1mdk)
vendor release number: 3360
XFree86 version: 3.3.6
.................................
...............
screen #0:
dimensions: 1024x768 pixels (347x260 millimeters)
resolution: 75x75 dots per inch
depths (1): 16
.....................
Why does rpm -q say XFree86-4.1.0 but xdpyinfo say's 3.3.6 ?.
>From xfree86.org
XFree 3.3.x Rendition driver development discontinued in favour of XFree 4.0
driver.
Why is it not using it ?.
Why doesn't /proc/interrupts /devices list the PCI video card ?.
but only in /proc/pci VGA compatible controller: Rendition Verite
V2000/V2100/V2200 (rev 6). IRQ 9.
.xsession-errors has this and others
Gtk-WARNING **: gtk_signal_disconnect_by_data(): could not find handler
containing data (0x8199A20)
Xlib: extension "RENDER" missing on display ":0.0".
Opener: received SetSecret
Opener: received OpenLock
Also i've had a zombie for a long time, is it relevant.
trev 1863 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? Z 13:39 0:00 [Xsession <defunct>]
How do i get rid of it ?. I cannot kill it in or out of X.
This is driving me nuts :-(, and probably you all as well.
