Yup, I do know a LITTLE of the Citrix history but didn't it just get bought by MS?? If so, we can assume they'll embrace and um, extinguish it.

Hi Jason Cirtix is not all bad, there linux support is excelent. Me and my co-worker use it on our linux work stations and is very good. There support for linux is NZ anyway is great. You do realise that citrix originaly developed the multiuser windows system.. (called multi win) which they sold as product and MS$ bought/licenced it off them and then developed RDP/terminal services. MaheshI hope their network falls over then...serves em right, Citrix is now owned by MS right???? =) Cheers J Lance BLACKLER wrote:Well Jason is probably more correct - the realityis that all of thedesktop PC's at head office are windows machines -I personally have awin 2000 machine - as are the branch managers PC's- only the branchcounter machines and a couple of other's that Ihave seen in thebranches run Linux (that is still 300 or so unitsthough).I understand that the HO PC's will be replacedwith Citrix terminalsthat display a win 2000 desktop and run the usualoffice MS apps fromthe central server. Most of the people thattravel a lot have alaptop that they plug into a CRT display andkeyboard etc in theiroffice - don't know what will happen to these -they will presumablyget to keep them - also running windows of course. Crane own theMico companies in New Zealand as well as CorysElectrical(wholesaler). So now they operate MasterTradeand Corys as 2brands one business and Micos as a separatebrand separate business.MasterTrade have over the years (under NeilHelson's direction)developed a very good in house sales anddistribution (unix based)software - originally running on windows PC's(on the counters) inan emulator - but more recently the PC's havebeen running Linux asmentioned in the article - and the nationwideand branch level PCnetworks are also Linux (Redhat). We also have a AS400 server in our Christchurchhead office. Why the change now? - Crane are implementing JDEdwards throughoutthe groups business - so that includes us,apparantly we will allbe getting Citrix terminals and as far as I cantell JDE runs fromSun Solaris servers. That's as much as I knowfrom briefdiscussions with one of our IT staff here, whoat this stagedoesn't seem to know exactly what the changeentails yet either.Regards Lance Blackler Heating Technical Advisor MasterTrade Corys LtdFrom: Christopher Sawtell<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: This morning's Press Date: Wed, 26 Feb 2003 17:50:22 +1300 On Wed, 26 Feb 2003 15:08, you wrote:heres a copy of the article, which I don'tparticularly like nowthat I have read it.http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,2289011a28,00.htmlDoes anybody know why MasterTrade stoppedusing Linux, whenaccording to the art. it was going well? -- Christopher Sawtell_________________________________________________________________Protect your PC - get McAfee.com VirusScanOnlinehttp://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963_________________________________________________________________Add photos to your e-mail with MSN 8.
