On a fresh install of RH8, gnome-panel, the "taskbar" so to speak crashes as it loads up. It continually crashes, reports the crash and loads again ad nauseam, rendering the GUI (kde) useless.
This doesn't seem to happen on the first login, but once it starts, logging in and out doesn't fix it so the only quick way to fix it is to delete the user and their home directory and add the user all over again. Unfortunately, this only works for a few logins before it all happens again.
Basically, it's now happening when root uses startx. I haven't tried but I'm willing to bet that I can't delete the root user to fix this problem, although now that I think about it I haven't tried deleting the /root directory (not really an ideal solution either eh?).
Any suggestions? Michael.
