I believe it's sane 1.0.7 (not sure how to check this but all the docs and supporting files refer to 1.0.7; anyway it's whatever came stock with the official RH 7.3 disks). The salient features of the installation procedure were 1) connect the scanner to USB and power it on; 2) edit /etc/sane.d/epson.conf as I've described already (i.e. fix the typo); 3) $ cat /proc/bus/usb/devices (to get the vendor ID and model ID of the scanner); 4) become root; 5) # modprobe scanner vendor=0x04b8 product=0x04b8 (to install the scanner module; your product ID would be different. In my installation of RH 7.3 modprobe is in /sbin not /bin). > That sounds promising! - if you use negative transparencies, that is. :-) Medium > format? I don't generally scan 'negative transparencies' - i.e. negatives - because I do most of my medium format work on positive transparency (colour slide) film. The reasons for that get very much off topic for a Linux group. But you can afford to be much less fussy about colour rendition of your scan if you're shooting negatives. They invariably undergo substantial colour correction whether digital or (in the mini-lab) analogue. =====Andrew
