Yes, I'm finding that. A pity that it so undermines production boxes for newbies, 
that's all.
Nick's point affirmed - choose mobo's appropriate to Linux! + a modem.
Are there any current mobo chipsets more perfect for use? Intel?
Seems it will always be a matter of writing off at least the onboard modems so often 
supplied now, at least temporarily.
My machine is a year old already. The next will be better selected - quotes anyone? P4 
2.5G+ spec. 
What is the best system a Linux home user could expect these days?
