I'll do the same:

1) fairly crap PIII-966 system with a dead kb controller (so I use a USB kb)
   as my PVR - runs MythTV. Very cool. Records TV, plays DVD's, scheduler,
   etc etc. Pretty much just an OSS TiVo.

2) Old POS laptop.. (P75 I think?) with both ethernet and wireless adapters,
   running HostAP and the linux kernel's bridging stuff. works *damned*
   well as an AP at my gf's flat. (it's away in her wardrobe - I just pull
   out my laptop and start surfing)
