As per other message in response to Nick Rout. Manual make menuconfig.

No I've never done that. The real increases in performance in my experience
were from kernel 2.6.x and KDE-3.2 which I am going to update to 3.2.1 using
the latest gcc-3.3.3 and distcc. I thought I might play with -Os for the
compiler option.

btw, Without in anyway wanting to initiate a rancorous dispute, has anybody
tried the latest XFree86 kit, i.e. XFree4.4?

Is it any good?

NB. This PC runs Linux. If you find a virus apparently from me,
it has forged the e-mail headers on someone else's machine.
Please do not notify me when this occurs. Thanks.
