it doesn't matter what kernel you were running when you compiled your
new gentoo kernel. gcc compiles the kernel. if you used suse's gcc you
may have problems - I don't know what version of gcc you have in suse,
but i'm sure you were sensible and compiled your kernel from inside the
gentoo chroot, which uses the stage3 gcc.
