so you have a compiler installed? sounds like you don't. check if you have
gcc installed with

rpm -q gcc

why was it you wanted htdig? RUTE has a good index IIRC.

and didn't you say the other day that you had installed htdig, or are you
trying again?

was the cd in the drive when you did that? was it mounted?

are you sure that it isn't looking on the cd? perhaps there are later
versions of the packages you want out on the internet, and it is getting
them from the net for a good reason?
