Thanks for the advice everyone gave me on which Linux apps to run, which adsl router to buy... apologies for not replying individually - a 31st mega birthday (mine), and serious job hunting have taken over my life!
So, I'm into week 2 of running a Linux desktop. It is not so bad as I thought it would be <grin>... Stuff running is:
Distro: Mandrake10 Mail: Thunderbird and gotmail (for hotmail pull) Web: Firefox Office: OpenOffice IDE: Eclipse
Webservers: Tomcat and Apache2
Music listening: Totem media player (it works, xmms didn't) Ripping Grip (with lame encoder for mp3) Burning: K3b
Link: Web Excel 4 port router (2nd one.... I trashed the first trying to do a flash upgrade of the firmware)
