Hi,
  Ok, what about sports?

X runs around like an idiot doing dumb things. The ref blows the
whistle. He may pull out a card and wave it, or the ref is content to wave
his hands. The idiotic behaviour stops immediately. But did you notice?
The ref did not descend to the level of the idiot and reply in kind.

In those sports situations I could think of, the idiotic behaviour was
stopped with some measure of restraint. The crowd just booed. Fine.
Occassionaly, members of the crowd respond with equal idiotness and threw
stuff on the field etc. This was just aweful.

Conclusion, we do not respond in kind. We still try to behave with some
measure of restraint.

Daryn - it is good to see your contribution. But, I wonder if you could
be so kind as to explain. I am a big boy now (sigh, and still growing
bigger) and can take public correction.

Why? What social rule did I violate? What did I do wrong?

I thought (hopefully incorrectly) that linux users are capable of
listening to, and thinking about a different point of view.
