Often worth a try.
All routes to maximised computer functionality worth knowing about, but..

then you're casting doubts on the efficacy of a _lot_ of other distros

When it fails on up2date FC2 and 3 and multiple installs of Debian
testing ( updated ), then I don't point the finger at the distro.

You should at least consider so doing.

Debian has got stuck in the mire of political correctness,

..no: Debian is stuck on 'server security and stability' correctness.

Let's not confuse principled use of consistently peer-reviewed OS components, with irrational imposed (non-)use for political purposes (of GNU-denial).

and Fedora is a bleeeding edge experimental dist. RedHat use it to try things out on the 'Linux Community' before committing new things to their Enterprise Server.

It's still a commercial-grade, server-oriented distro, and well worth studying.
