The fonts used by TeX etc, default to the so called 'Computer Modern' font. There are no Type 1 fonts distributed as standard for computer modern, thus the glyphs are rendered as pit-patterns. Thus barely readable. If you use TeX to typeset anything which you then hope to read in Acroread you have to configure the TeX system you are using to use one of the 35 standard fonts which are freely available. Otherwise use xpdf which can render Computer Modern much better than Acroread. -- C. S.
