ones.
Have now found it in the help index, but it is well hidden.

If I understand your problem correctly you are wanting to not have
automatic numbering be activated when you type a number at the start of
a paragraph. Depending on your version of OOo the wording may be
slightly different for example "AutoCorrect" maybe
"AutoCorrect/AutoFormat".
To turn off this "feature":
Tools > AutoCorrect... > Options
Remove the tick from "Apply numbering -symbol:*"
While you have this dialog displayed you may wish to turn off some other
automatic features. There are two column of "tick" boxes the first
column titled "M" is for when you use: Format > AutoFormat > Apply
and the second column titles "T" is for those automatic features in
action while you are typing.
