o Append the line 'debug' to his /etc/ppp/options file and then read the log 
output.

o Activate the check box for 'Show log window' in kppp and watch what happens.

o Can you hear the modem speaker whistling away trying to do a handshake with 
the other end?

o Rotating through the options in kppp Configure --> Accounts --> Edit --> 
Authentication can be helpfull
