This happens irregularly with TelstraClear's > primary 203.96.152.4 > secondary 203.96.152.12 name servers, and has done so for years. Sometimes I get fed up and add an xtra server to /etc/resolv.conf, though since I'm using the firewall's caching name server such problems disappear. I presume using nscd (name service caching daemon) will also fix that; but DNS caching seems to be disables by default (SUSE at least) because they weren't secure enough. Caching of user/group names, yellow pages nis stuff etc is still on by default. > Or rather, my PCs all have 192.168.2.1 as their DNS, which is the SMC > router, which is configured with Telstra's primary and secondary addresses > as shown. Try using a different secondary name server. Volker -- Volker Kuhlmann is list0570 with the domain in header http://volker.dnsalias.net/ Please do not CC list postings to me.
