this is interesting although the LES students and many people who have posted saying CLUG was their route into unix provide counterexamples. some people use unix happily if they don't have to administer it. my mum falls into this category. Internet cafes can deploy unix without their punters noticing. but this is the dirty secret isn't it? in order to use unix at all unless it is administered for you, one needs to be interested enough to want to learn about it, which few people are.
