Ouch. Always install the distro-supplied package if there is one, esp
for proprietory software. I take "there is an acroread for Mandriva" as
a given.
Get rid of it (cross your fingers), and get the Mandriva one instead.

Thanks for the replies, mine is an older LE distro for which I had not
located a pkg.
The 1 I had had worked before I crashed the box so I tried it again.
Chris came to my aid with a later version which installed ok
