Today I realised that I haven't increased my swap space since
increasing my laptop RAM (to 2GB -- ahh). There being no HDD space
free, I had to shrink the large ext3 partition occupying the majority
of the disk. I wasn't brave enough to make it up as I went along (I do
backup, but a restore/reinstall can take a while).

The instructions at
http://howtoforge.com/linux_resizing_ext3_partitions are clear and
worked for me. Some familiarity with Linux command-line work is
assumed, but each tool and step is reasonably well explained for the
beginner.

Posted for the occasion when someone else needs to do similar.

Roy.
