The Edimax platform is OS as well.

You can build your own solution on those as well.

Well according to the voyage README

"rt2400 and rt2500 is provided as separated modules. ipw2100 and ipw2200 is
now included in 2.6.15-voyage kernel.  However, these drivers does not
support Master mode (AP mode)."

So if I wanted to make an AP I would avoid anything that uses the
rt2400/2500 or ipw2100/2200

But then again I would probably buy one of the Linksys linux based models..
Making an AP is very educational, but whatever you make is likely to be
hotter than one of those little linksys boxes.
